GI_Forum 2011
Jul. 5th - 8th 2011
Salzburg, Austria- Learning with Geoinformation: We encourage contributions discussing various issues related to Geoinformation in Education. In 2011 a special focus is put on the implementation of the 'Spatial Citizenship' concept. Under the umbrella of the digital:earth:eu network further emphasis is put on networking initiatives for the inclusion of GI in education. The conference Learning with Geoinformation will host such contributions in sessions partially shared with GI_Forum. Please refer to the separate Call for Papers (www.gi-forum.org/learning). Accepted contributions will be published in separate proceedings in co-operation with digital:earth:eu.
- Climate Change and Spatial Vulnerability Assessment (Monday July 4, lunchtime - Wednesday July 6, lunchtime): This workshop is organised by the United Nations University - Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and the Centre for Geoinformatics, University of Salzburg (Z_GIS) as a follow-up of the GI_Forum 2010 special workshop on ‘Vulnerability: Spatial Assessment and Analysis’. The event in 2011 will be attended by experts from the climate change adaptation field (e.g. IPCC lead authors for the AR5) and from the Disaster Risk Reduction Community. The outcomes of the workshop will feed into both discourses: climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. Strengthening the cooperation and synergies between both schools is a goal of the workshop. We invite paper and poster submissions on case studies, concepts and methodologies that will contribute to the workshop discussions. Check www.gi-forum.org/spatialvulnerability for details.
- Global and Climate Change: Monitoring and Modelling: “Global change” – a short formula for a multitude of anticipated shifts in societal and environmental domains in respond to strong global drivers such as climate change – calls for spatial monitoring and modelling techniques to better understand the implications and potential dynamics of such changes. International programmes and visions (GEO, GMES, SEIS, …) envisage unified systems based on quality standards for data, products and services to establish optimized observation and forecasting capacity within Europe, and also globally. We especially welcome papers that demonstrate best practices and experiences in dealing with climate change effects.

Novatech 2010
The main focus of this 7th International Conference on Sustainable Techniques and Strategies for Urban Water Management is sustainable solutions for management of wet-weather flows in constructed areas (i.e. urban and suburban areas). The conference covers both stormwater management and CSOs. Urban water management under wet-weather conditions faces more and more diverse challenges: protection against flooding and erosion, enhancement of receiving water quality, reduction of sanitary risks, but also opportunities such as stormwater harvesting, use of stormwater for improving the urban landscape or for improving the urban microclimate, as well as the role of ecocitizenship. Moreover, increasing demands on the quality of receiving bodies and of water resources, the worsening of anthropomorphic impacts, as well as likely changes in climate, are adding more complexity to the process. These evolutions lead to a diversification of the required expertise, the scales considered, the criteria of evaluation and the technical solutions proposed. Perspectives beyond traditional urban drainage are required.

The Sustainable City 2010
This Sixth International Conference on Urban Regeneration and Sustainability aims to address the many inter-related aspects of the urban environment from transport and mobility to social exclusion and crime prevention. The meeting will build on the contributions made in previous conferences, which successfully managed to provide an international view of the problems facing modern cities and their solutions. Urban areas produce a series of environmental problems arising from the consumption of natural resources and the consequent generation of waste and pollution. These problems contribute to the development of social and economic imbalances. All these problems, that continue to grow in our society, require the development of new solutions.
